This is our journey of discovery of Panama. It is the story about how we came to choose Panama to be our new home and what we experience as we complete the Immigration formalities that will allow us to retire here. Our 10 day trip takes us out of the city as we explore beach and mountain communities.

The Begining
Setting the Stage:It’s good to know a little about who we are and where we came from so that anyone reading this can see if they have a similar outlook on life and whether or not we are on the same page.Let’s not forget, traveling to foreign countries - let alone living in one - is not for everyone!
I was born and raised in the Detroit area and have been car crazy ever since! I moved to Florida in the early 70’s and opened the first travel agency in a small town outside of Orlando.I spent over 20 years in the travel industry, adding two more travel agencies, and escorting clients on numerous cruises and tours around the world.I fell in love with each place I visited and, in many cases, dreamed of retiring there. But, with a family to feed and work to be done, my dreams were put on hold! However, in the back of my mind I felt that some day the circumstances would be right and, in the meantime, I researched the countries on the “Best Places to Retire” list!
In the mid 1980’s I met my present wife, Priscilla, who had been born and raised on a coffee farm in Kenya, East Africa. After coming to America she, too, became involved in the travel industry and spent over 13 years marketing adventure trips throughout Africa, Asia and the Indo-Pacific regions for a luxury Tour Operator. After we married, I encouraged her to form her own travel consulting company which she operated, successfully, for several more years.Eventually, the travel and time away home began to take its toll and we decided we wanted to work together and enjoy more time together.
My wife and I have been thinking for some time now about writing about our “Panama Adventure” but really haven’t known where to start! We also didn’t know who would be interested in reading about it!Then we realized that it didn’t matter if NOBODY read it!After all, this is OUR story – a story about how we came to the decision to become Expats and how we chose Panama as our new home.
We have found excellent information online in the form of Blogs, Forums and Groups and it is our intent to share our first hand information with others who are exploring the possibility of retiring outside of the US. Hopefully, the personal experiences we share will help others understand the process and prepare mentally and physically for their own adventure.
Warning! There will be no sugar-coating here – you’ll read about the good, the bad and the ugly! Also, keep in mind that this is OUR story with our reactions to the situations we encountered. Yours may be completely different. Having said that, let’s begin!
I'd like to share my Snapfish photos with you. Once you have checked out my photos you can order prints and upload your own photos to share. Click here to view photos
